regional, and national XC skiing news

The Ski Striders are nearing their goal, and with your help in crossing the finish line, we can have a brand new groomer on snow this season!

A primer on all the changes to races and schedules for regional ski events outside of the WNSL calendar (for you ski parents ;)).

Where we practice

Pinehurst Park

Until the trails are groomed, we hold our dry-land, non-rollerski practices at Pinehurst Park in Eau Claire, WI. Workouts include HR zone-specific interval runs with poles + hill bounding, strength circuits, core workouts, mobility games, and more.

tower Ridge

Tower Ridge is our main practice location during the bulk of the season when trails are groomed. It is the largest cross-country ski trail complex in both Eau Claire County and in west central Wisconsin. It is located on Eau Claire County forestland in the town of Seymour off CTH L. It has approximately 12 miles of trail with terrain of varying degrees of difficulty offering something for all levels of skiers. The ski trails include wooded, rolling terrain, and are groomed and tracked on the highest priority basis of the four ski trails offered by the county. The recreation area includes a Chalet with flush toilets, additional pit toilets, approximately 3 km of lighted trails and a snowshoe trail adjacent to but separate from the lighted ski trails.

Hickory Ridge

A few Saturdays a season, our athletes are treated to optional long distance practices at one of Wisconsin's premiere xc ski desinations: Hickory Ridge in New Auburn, WI, approximately 40 minutes away from Eau Claire. Founded by Birkie Founder and local WI legend Dave Landgraf, and carried on by the Friends of Hickory Ridge, this network of over 25K of impeccably maintained ski trail offers fast, rolling trails (with a few excellent climbs and descents) nestled within deep woods. Planned expanded amenities for the coming season include expanded parking at the Southern trailhead and an additional picnic/warming shelter. A warming cabin is located at the North end of the trails near Dog Island.

River Prairie park

During the dry land portion of the season, our athletes are strongly encouraged to attend rollerski practices at River Prairie Park in Altoona, WI. This beautiful park that offers many amenities includes a 3mi looped paved trail along the Eau Claire River ideal for rollerskiing.
